No Data Centers, No Flock - The People's Report - August 2026
We have a physical meeting location! This is not a drill.
LETTER FROM THE CO-CHAIR
Hello, Kings, Queens, and Cosmic Beings!
First, let me cut through the pleasantries and announce that we have a location!
The August General Meeting, along with our meetings on the first Sunday of each month for the foreseeable future, will be held at:
Unitarian Universalist Church, Rahn Hall
311 E. Harris St.
Savannah, GA 31401
Enter through the small gate on the E. Macon Street side of the building.
The meeting time remains the same: 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Thank you all for your patience, and a special thank-you to everyone who attended our Zoom meetings in the meantime. I know these sorts of meetings are not exciting, but they are absolutely critical to how we operate.
Each chapter of our larger national organization is run autonomously by its members. The only way that model can work is for the membership body to show up whenever possible. If you cannot attend in person, please make every effort to join us on Zoom.
If we continue to struggle to meet quorum, meaning the minimum number of members who must be present for us to pass motions and make decisions, we may be forced to lower the quorum requirement. Doing so would inherently weaken the democratic nature of our chapter, so please do not let that happen.
On another note, I learned something new. August has a tradition amongst African Americans called Black August. Starting in California in the 1970s, Black August was created to commemorate and honor Black leaders who have fought and often murdered for the liberation of Black folks. And if we understand anything about our fight against white supremacy and imperialism, we know that a fight for Black folks in our community is a fight for all of us. Because we know that for any of us to be free, we all must be free.
So this month, reflect on the Black leaders who have bled to give us any semblance of freedom many never lived long enough to enjoy themselves.
Lastly, this month, you have been the voices and hands of our communities. Remember that.
While Threads and Twitter are full of “socialists” and “communists” who have never so much as held a picket sign, much less organized a campaign to make our world even a little bit better, you were out there doing the work.
And whenever you feel as though this work does not matter, remember that many of the leaders we honor during Black August never lived to see the fruits of their labor. But they did the work anyway. They did it for their children. They did it for us.
To repurpose an old saying: We plant seeds for trees in whose shade we may never sit.

Dissolution of Working Groups and Committees
The following WG’s and Committees will be brought to the membership for a vote to dissolve due to lack of available leadership.
Housing Justice Working Group
Communications and Design Working Group
As has been said before, this does NOT mean the work in those areas stops. It just means the chapter doesn’t have the need or the capacity to maintain a separate operating body with it’s own mission and leadership.
Any campaigns or efforts that do not have its own WG or Committee will be lead by the Steering Committee.
The Restorative Justice & Survivor-Centered Accountability Policy
Now, before you say anything! We met! And it went extremely well and the three authors worked together in comradely fashion. However, there is still more work to do. Expect a motion on the floor to once again move the deadline to September 6th (The next General Meeting and my birthday!).
Effingham Data Center: A Reflection
I can’t say I was surprised when I heard about the data center in Effingham County. If you look at the way things have been going, this is a predictable turn of events. The capital playbook is typical.
There were no submissions for the Art & Community section.
